Hazel was a great collaboration with Catherine Hailey of the design firm Hailey Design.  The restaurant in the trendy 14th St. corridor had 3 distinct spaces to consider in addition to the outdoor area.  For the entry and bar area, I had always loved the organic beauty of old victrolas and wanted to incorporate them into this space.  I wanted the guests to be surprised as they walked under them, so I used a reflective foil technique for the insides and created a design to mimic the stamen of a flower. 

 

To divide the bar space from the booths without closing it in, we used hundreds of reclaimed wood bannisters and pieces to create a sculptural wall that was inspired by one of my favorite artists, Louise Nevelson.

Finally, in the smaller dining room, I used 3 large discs to create a minimal silhouette, but adorned the undersides with an army of flowers and butterflies to reinforce the farm to table concept of the restaurant.
